About this Course

The course "Logic: Critical Thinking & Argumentation" is designed to equip students with essential tools for precise reasoning and persuasive argumentation, applicable in any academic or professional field. Throughout the full year or semester-long course, students will explore various types of inductive and deductive arguments, identify and avoid common fallacies, and critique arguments using the textbook "Think With Socrates" by Paul Herrick. Key topics include informal fallacies like "red herring" and "ad hominem", logic of science, moral reasoning, and Aristotle's theory of the syllogism in categorical logic. While no algebra is used, the deductive logic component requires skills similar to 8th-grade algebra. Upon completion, high school students may earn 1 credit.
