About this Course
The online course, High School Literature and Composition, is designed for high school students, preferably those who have completed an Introduction to Literature & Composition course. It emphasizes the development of persuasive writing skills, including crafting compelling arguments, organizing thoughts logically, and refuting counter-arguments. Students will enhance their composition skills through weekly writing exercises, culminating in two persuasive essays and a research project, which also includes an in-class presentation. The course focuses less on basic writing elements and more on advanced aspects, assuming students are competent in grammar.
In terms of literature, the course explores five novels from the 19th and 20th centuries, along with short stories, essays, and poems. Students will analyze literary devices, track character development, and engage in lively discussions, all while enjoying a diverse range of texts. Each semester ends with a short exam to assess learning. Upon completion, students may receive 1 Literature credit.
