High School Latin 1 Immersive – Section A

This course, "Introduction to Latin for High School Beginners", is a year-long program (Year 1 of a 3-year sequence) that serves as a general introduction to Latin. Taught primarily in Latin, it follows the grammar curriculum of the Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata series by Hans Ørberg, focusing on intuitive learning through contextual reading. Students develop skills in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking Latin while also learning the basics of grammar and vocabulary. The course includes various activities like group work, grammar drills, online tools, and creative assignments, with an estimated two hours of weekly homework.

The curriculum covers chapters 1-13 of the Lingua Latina Familia Romana text, teaching all five noun declensions, adjective declensions, and pronouns. It introduces some verb forms and other grammar topics. Successful completion of this course may earn students a 1 Language credit.
