About this Course

Classical Composition I is a rigorous, year-long English composition course for high school students (grades 9-12, ages 14-18), structured within a fast-paced, condensed series to cover a comprehensive writing curriculum inspired by the ancient "progymnasmata" method. This first course focuses on the initial stages of the system, including Fable, Narrative, Chreia, and Maxim. Students are expected to commit approximately one hour daily and maintain a high standard of writing skill, with weekly final essay submissions. The course is designed for students with a solid grasp of English grammar who can write complete sentences, construct paragraphs, and edit their work. It's intended for students who will complete the entire program within three and a half years, and is not recommended for younger students or those with more than four years left in school.
