High School Astronomy
About this Course
The Astronomy course is a full-year offering that serves as an introductory survey for students at the rhetoric stage. It covers a wide range of topics in astronomy, including the cosmos, the celestial sphere, historical perspectives, light and spectroscopy, telescopes, our solar system, stellar formation, galaxies, non-planetary bodies, orbital mechanics, and the possibility of life on other worlds. The course also delves into the space race and the scientific method. Students can expect to use basic algebra and geometry concepts to work through astronomy principles, as well as engage with image-based software for data analysis.
This course has prerequisites of Algebra I and completion or concurrent enrollment in Geometry. It is offered as an alternate to Anatomy & Physiology and will be available during the 2025-2026 school year.
