About this Course
This is a full-year online course that takes place every Tuesday at 1:00–2:00 p.m. ET or Friday at 12:00–1:00 p.m. ET. The course is divided into two semesters, with Government being taught in the first semester and Economics in the second. The Government portion of the course covers the principles behind the United States government and political institutions, enabling students to interact with various viewpoints and analyze the political process. The Economics portion introduces students to foundational market concepts and helps them become familiar with economic institutions and the role of government in the economy.
The course is offered at two levels: regular and honors. The honors level includes one additional assignment per week, with more challenging reading and writing elements. Students should expect 3-4 hours of work per week, including weekly homework assignments and live classroom discussions. The course can be used to satisfy the prerequisite for the AP US Government and Politics course and is designed for students in grades 9-12, with a maximum class size of 16 students. Technology requirements include high-speed internet, a webcam, sound card, microphone, and streaming video capabilities.
