About this Course

The Well-Trained Mind Academy offers a full-year course in German IV and V, which serves as a continuation of German III and covers the material of two high school credits. The course uses the textbook Neue Blickwinkel and alternates between Year A and Year B to provide students with an in-depth exploration of the German language and the cultures and literatures of German-speaking countries. The course aims to deepen students' understanding of German grammar and develop their reading, speaking, and writing skills through the exploration of historical, artistic, literary, and political topics, with a greater focus on reading and analyzing literary texts. By the end of the course, students will have gained the necessary skills to make arguments, understand cultural nuances, and engage in practical applications, such as creating job applications and understanding ads.

Students will also build global competency skills for future careers and experiences based on the World Readiness Standards from the ACTFL, including Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. The course prepares students to apply for the Global Seal of Biliteracy and to take the College Board's Advanced Placement test. It is important to note that this course requires live interaction, and a delayed section is not offered. Prerequisites for this course include German III and a passing score on the German IV Placement Test.
