German IA

The Well-Trained Mind Academy offers a full-year course, Foundational German 1A, specifically designed for younger students to introduce them to the language and cultures of German-speaking countries. This course is aimed at students in the logic stage (grades 6-9) and provides them with a foundation for further high school or college level studies. Over the course of the year, students will learn to discuss their likes, dislikes, hobbies, daily activities, favorite foods, and ordering in a restaurant. The course moves through the core textbook at half the pace of the high school course, ensuring that students have a strong grasp of the material.

The course aligns with the World-readiness Standards for Learning Languages from the ACTFL, focusing on Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. It's important to note that there is no delayed section offered for this course, as live interaction is crucial to language learning. The academy recommends that students have a solid understanding of grammar rules before enrolling in this course, and they offer placement tests to help determine the appropriate grammar course.
