This online course, "High School Science for Homeschool Students: Genetics," is a semester-long, live interactive study led by Dr. Kristin Moon. It delves deeply into the fascinating world of genetics, focusing on the expression of genes and their inheritance patterns. The course begins with a review of fundamental genetic terminology and builds upon it to explore complex topics such as Mendelian inheritance, sex-linked traits, mitochondrial DNA, and epigenetic phenomena. Students will also learn about prominent scientists who contributed to our understanding of genetics. Unique to this course is the opportunity for students to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice, which they will present to the class.Learning is facilitated through live classes, hands-on labs, and weekly homework assignments, with student progress evaluated through participation, assignments, and periodic exams. The course assumes students have completed high school biology or the first semester of a biology course where genetics was covered.
