General Chemistry (Honors)

The course, Honors Chemistry, is designed for high school juniors and seniors who have completed or are currently taking Algebra II. It focuses on advanced chemical concepts, such as algebraic manipulations, ratios, proportions, unit conversions, and significant figures, culminating in pH calculations involving logarithms and power functions. The course aims not just to impart scientific knowledge but also to cultivate a sense of wonder and appreciation for the physical world. It employs a mastery approach using John D. Mays' "General Chemistry" text and incorporates lab work for practical application of concepts.

The course integrates various disciplines, including history, mathematics, faith, and the philosophy of science. It is delivered through live Zoom meetings that include lectures, discussions, problem-solving, and experimentation. Parents are expected to facilitate lab exercises at home. Assessment is based on participation, quizzes, tests, essays, and lab reports, with homework being self-graded.
