French IA

The Well-Trained Mind Academy offers Foundational French 1A, a full-year course designed for younger students to introduce them to the French language and cultures of French-speaking countries. The course moves at half the pace of the high school course and covers topics such as discussing likes and dislikes, describing people and food, and traveling using prepositions. The course aligns with the World-readiness Standards for Learning Languages from the ACTFL and focuses on developing skills in communication, cultural understanding, connections, comparisons, and communities. The course is suitable for students in the logic stage (grades 6-9) and is not offered as a delayed section. A strong understanding of grammar rules is recommended and the academy offers placement tests to determine the appropriate grammar course for students.
