French 1 Language and Culture (Honors)

This online course offers a comprehensive introduction to the French language, using an academic curriculum and multimedia resources to teach students vocabulary, grammar, and cultural knowledge. The course covers topics such as greetings, descriptions of people, family, school, hobbies, food, weather, and celebrations. Students will learn the three main verb families and some irregular verbs in the past, present, and near future tenses. The course also provides information and insights into French-speaking countries and their cultures. It is available in both standard and honors levels, with the honors level featuring increased opportunities for instruction and speaking. The course is equivalent to a high school foreign language requirement for college and can be taken by grade 8 students, but the pace and workload are rigorous and at the high school level.
