About this Course

This online course focuses on building English vocabulary by studying Greek and Latin roots, which form the foundation for thousands of English words. By learning over 1000 word elements, students will enhance their understanding and usage of the English language, as well as improve their reading comprehension and essay writing skills for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. The course covers topics such as the structure of English words, pronunciation and spelling, and the difference between words with similar appearances but different meanings (e.g. affect vs. effect). It is recommended for middle school and early high school students, and can be taken as part of a full core course load due to its lower workload. Upon completion, this course can be listed on a TPS transcript for credit as an Academic Elective.
