About this Course
English Foundations 3 is a comprehensive English course designed for 8th-9th graders who need additional reinforcement in composition, literature, grammar, and vocabulary before taking more advanced high school-level English classes. The course, which can accommodate up to 12 students, covers English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, spelling, sentence structure, parts of speech, and literature analysis. It also introduces students to ancient writings such as the Iliad and the Odyssey, Beowulf, and the legend of King Arthur and his knights, as well as famous poets and poetry techniques.
The live class takes place on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm (EST), and further instruction and assignments are designated through the Canvas website. Class activities include students reading mini-lessons and Reader’s Theater plays. Students should expect to complete various writing assignments, including four multi-paragraph essays, a creative short story, response paragraphs, and analytical themes based on short stories, several poems of various types. They are also expected to do grammar and vocabulary exercises, and literature assignments like answering comprehension questions and projects.
