English 4/5/6 Western Lit and Comp (Virgil, Dante, Shakespeare, Defoe and others)

This online course is an integrated literature and writing course that explores fundamental questions of existence, purpose, and the nature of God as they have been addressed in classical Western literature. Students will study and analyze seminal works from the western literary canon, including the Aeneid, Dante's Inferno, Shakespeare's plays, Gulliver's Travels, Robinson Crusoe, works by C.S. Lewis and Edgar Allan Poe, and a variety of plays. Through this study, students will learn to write insightful analytical essays using fresh approaches to structure and rhetorical development.

The course does not specify a particular level or pace, but it is designed to prepare students for writing analytical essays in later high school and college. It is worth noting that the course has CA A-G approval, indicating that it meets the University of California's high school course requirements for admission.
