About this Course

This online course, titled English 3, focuses on developing and enhancing the analytical essay writing skills of high school and college students. The course covers literary and rhetorical analysis, as well as written expression skills, through the study of a variety of stories, articles, and films. Students will analyze works such as Fahrenheit 451, Babette's Feast, Julius Caesar, Hidden Figures, and have the opportunity to choose one film for analysis. The course also emphasizes the recognition of universal truths in fiction and real-world settings.

Throughout the course, students will learn to research and critique sources, form effective theses, outline sound arguments, and compose compelling academic essays with proper styling and formatting. The course includes a self-evaluation and editing process and provides a foundation for successive high school English courses at TPS. This course is also particularly good preparation for TPS English 4/5. The Honors option includes different assignments, requires more work, and is more difficult. The course has CA A-G approval.
