About this Course

**Course **
The CLRC's Elementary Latin 1 course introduces students to the Latin language using the text "Minimus: Starting Out in Latin" and its accompanying workbook. Led by the character Minimus the mouse, pupils learn basic grammar, including parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and prepositions, along with the irregular verb "to be." Through stories set in Roman Britain, they acquire over 100 Latin vocabulary words and gain insights into the rich presence of Latin in the English language. The course emphasizes listening and speaking through weekly recordings and out loud reading assignments.

The curriculum focuses on mastering model chants for 1st and 2nd declension nouns, 1st conjugation verbs, and case usage. Students develop a solid understanding of personal endings of verbs in the present tense. Weekly assignments, guided by CLRC teachers, include exercises from the text and workbook, supplemental grammar exercises, and chanting activities to reinforce learning.
