About this Course
This elementary level course takes students on a journey through various periods in American history, including Jamestown, the American Revolution, the Civil War and the Underground Railroad, the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression, and WWII. By reading historical fiction and analyzing literary elements such as author's perspective, narrative, theme, plot, figures of speech, imagery, and foreshadowing, students will gain a deeper understanding of each time period. The course will also incorporate art and music from each era, as well as creative writing assignments, class discussions, and projects. No prior knowledge or prerequisites are required for this course.
