Elementary Greek 1

The CLRC's Elementary Greek 1 course is a language program designed for children aged 9 to 10. It capitalizes on the young learners' inherent curiosity and language absorption skills to introduce them to the fundamentals of Greek. Over the course, students become proficient in the Greek alphabet, read and write Greek words and sentences, explore English derivatives from Greek roots, and learn about first and second declension nouns and the present indicative of verbs. This is achieved through an engaging mix of interactive activities like songs, games, and conversational phrases, along with more traditional methods such as sentence diagramming and paradigm practice. The curriculum incorporates phrases from Aesop's fables, allows students to memorize lines from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and introduces them to ancient Greek history and geography through stories like the gold-digging ants of Herodotus.
