Earth Science & Astronomy (Middle School) – Section A

This non-religious, non-arts, non-language course is a comprehensive, full-year exploration of Earth Science and Astronomy for middle school students and high school students seeking to fulfill a one-year science requirement. The course delves into the structure of the natural world through Geology, Meteorology, and Astronomy, employing a mix of lectures with visual aids, demonstrations, videos, readings, hands-on lab experiments, and investigative homework. It emphasizes scientific concepts using minimal basic math (helpful to understand powers of ten with exponents). Approximately 2-3 hours per week are dedicated to homework. High school students can also opt for an 'add-on' component (1 hour/week) to receive high school credit. The course is designed to meet most one-year middle school science requirements for grades 7-9, but high school students should verify its suitability with their school district.
