Dynamic Drifters: Planktonic Biology & Ecology – Early Semester

This online course delves into the realm of planktonic biology and ecology, with a focus on drifting organisms in the ocean. Students will explore the roles of microbes, phytoplankton, and zooplankton, learning about their interactions and contributions to oxygen production, carbon sequestration, and marine food webs. The course covers settlement and recruitment dynamics for larval organisms within the plankton community and equips students with research techniques and skills to interpret data and results. Additionally, it offers the opportunity to develop plankton identification skills and engage with scientific articles to reinforce understanding.
