Dynamic Drifters: Planktonic Biology & Ecology – Early Semester

The course, "Planktonic Biology and Ecology," offers an in-depth investigation into the world of drifting organisms in the ocean. Students will delve into the dynamics and biological processes of microbes, phytoplankton, and zooplankton, examining their roles in oxygen production, carbon sequestration, and marine food webs. The curriculum also covers the settlement and recruitment dynamics of larval organisms within the planktonic community.

Through this course, students will develop and refine their scientific research skills, learning to interpret data and results. They will engage with current scientific articles focused on planktonic biology and ecology, and practice identifying different types of plankton.
