Creative Writing I & II
About this Course
The Creative Writing for the Rhetoric Stage is a one-semester course, with an option to extend it to a full year, designed for high school students. This workshop-style course focuses on teaching various prose and poetry crafts and techniques. Students will learn about different literary forms and develop their creative writing projects, covering topics such as character, style, voice, diction, stanza, structure, metaphor, and meter. The course encourages students to share their work, participate in class critiques, and provide thoughtful, respectful feedback.
The course is not intended for workshopping preexisting material and expects students to create new pieces incorporating the concepts and materials from class instruction. The Creative Writing for the Rhetoric Stage course is available for enrollment in both the fall and spring semesters, making it possible for students to complete the full-year option by enrolling in both parts I and II of the course.
