Create a Character

The "Create a Character for Summer 2024" online course, taught by Kathryn Trudeau, is a six-week course designed for high school students interested in deepening their understanding of character development in literature and applying it to their own creative writing. The course will cover the different types of characters, how to create and develop a three-dimensional character, using universal archetypes, and the characterization process. The course will be delivered through live Zoom sessions and written content, with each week featuring a live session on Wednesdays at 6:15 pm EST. Students can expect to write a character-driven short story by the end of the course, and will also learn about suitable places to enter their writing, such as scholarships or contests. The cost of the course is $300 and it is worth 1/2 credit.

The instructor, Kathryn Trudeau, is an English Literature instructor with a background in freelance writing, editing, and instructional design. She is a graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville and Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature. She has taught Freshman Composition at Purdue University Calumet and has been a freelance writer and instructor for over ten years. The course requires internet access and Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
