College Art Appreciation

This online course offered by The Potter's School (TPS) provides a comprehensive study of the history of art, spanning from ancient times to the present day and taking a global perspective. The course covers major movements, artists, forms, styles, techniques, and influences that have shaped art, while also emphasizing necessary vocabulary and visual analysis skills. Students will learn to describe the form, content, function, and context of pieces, and to understand the artist's intent of expression in works. The course also explores connections between art and world religious and philosophical traditions, as well as the role of art in facilitating worship and reinforcing values.

The course is approved for college credit by Belhaven University and students may apply for a college transcript from Belhaven upon completion. The course may be taken with live class attendance reduced or waived to accommodate time zone or schedule conflicts. However, students preparing for the AP Art History exam should enroll in TPS AP Art History instead.
