Classic Children's Book Illustration | Fall

This online course explores the artistic storytelling techniques found in classic children's books, enabling students to create their own narratives inspired by beloved works. Over one semester, participants delve into the illustrations of E.H. Shepard's Winnie-the-Pooh and Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit series, analyzing and replicating their styles. The course, requiring no prior art experience, begins with foundational principles and gradually builds complexity, culminating in observational work, dynamic compositions, and color mixing. Students engage in the entire creative process, from idea generation to reflection, with regular class critiques fostering collaborative learning. The curriculum also includes dialogues and studies of classical illustrations.
