Chemistry Prep

This is a summary of the Chemistry Prep course offered by Mark Kernion in the summer of 2024. The course is designed to help students planning on taking AP® Chemistry in high school or college by providing a review of the prerequisite knowledge needed for success. The course is particularly helpful for students who have already taken a high school chemistry course and would benefit from a focused review of important topics, as well as for students who have not taken high school chemistry but feel confident they can start at a higher level. The course meets twice a week for a total of eight sessions, and all course materials will be supplied electronically by the instructor. The tuition for the course is $225. Students will need a computer with high-speed internet access, a scientific graphing calculator, and a Google account. The course covers major ideas presented in a typical high school chemistry course, including Basic Atomic Theory, Basic Chemical Bonding, Formula Writing and Naming of Chemical Compounds, Chemical Reaction Equations, and Stoichiometry. There will be no homework, quizzes, labs, or grades for this course.
