About this Course

This online course focuses on Chemistry, covering topics such as the structure and properties of matter, organic and inorganic chemistry, energy, thermochemistry, nuclear reaction, electrochemistry, acids and bases, and chemical bonding. The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of chemical principles and skills needed for college-level work. It includes approximately a dozen hands-on experiments, which can be completed at home with adult supervision. Students are expected to spend 5-7 hours per week on the course, which includes pre-recorded lectures, textbook study, and lab reports in Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) format is also part of the course. This course is available for both regular and honors level students.

The honors level course is designed to prepare STEM-interested students for college-level sciences, with an emphasis on quantitative analysis in problem-solving and labs. Honors students will also be required to write CER lab reports and will have additional labs assigned throughout the year. The course is suitable for students in grades 9-12 who have completed a physical science or general science course, have a good foundation in algebra, and have strong organizational and time management skills. The course requires high-speed broadband Internet, a webcam, sound card, microphone, and a scanner or smartphone for submitting tests and homework.
