About this Course

The course, titled "Level 5 Catechism," is a two-year, in-depth exploration of the Bible, focusing on the Scriptures and patristic commentaries. Students read and discuss significant portions of the Old and New Testaments, using the Orthodox Study Bible as the primary text. The curriculum is supplemented with a study of various saints mentioned in the Bible, their lives, and their faith. Each semester, students submit short biographies of these saints, and their learning is assessed through end-of-semester exams.

The main objectives of the course are fourfold: to teach students how to read the Bible for spiritual growth, to foster an understanding of how the Church interprets the Bible, to help students recognize the common experiences of God in both the Bible and the lives of the saints, and to cultivate a devotion to several of the saints mentioned in the Bible. This course is suited for those interested in Religious Studies.
