About this Course

Greek III is an advanced online course offered for high school students, requiring completion of up to chapter 24 of Athenaze with a satisfactory grade. Students will solidify their understanding of Classical and Biblical Greek, practicing reading intermediate to advanced texts in English and Greek. The primary text is 'Athenaze: Book II', supplemented by 'Dickey’s Prose Composition' and 'Chariton’s Callirhoe'. This comprehensive course aims to instill delight in the Greek language and enable students to read the New Testament in its original language. It is the equivalent of one high school credit in a foreign language.

This Greek III course is unique in offering instruction in both Classical and Koine Greek, spanning the period from Homer to the Hellenistic era. It employs a reconstructed pronunciation, but students using Modern, Koine, or Orthodox pronunciations are welcome. Unlike a course offered by St. Raphael’s, which focuses on Koine Greek in the context of Eastern Church traditions, this course provides a broader exposure to Greek literature and history.
