About this Course

The course Greek II is a sequel to Greek I, designed for upper school students with a specific prerequisite, primarily using 'Athenaze: Book I' and 'Athenaze: Book II'. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the Greek language, covering grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, along with elements of ancient Greek history and culture. Students study and translate stories from Greek and read excerpts from original ancient authors. The course aims to cultivate a delight in the language and enable students to read the New Testament in its original Greek. It's equivalent to one high school credit in foreign language. The instructors use a Classical pronunciation, but students using Modern, Koine, or Orthodox pronunciations are welcome.

This course is part of Scholé Academy's three-year curriculum that teaches both Classical and Koine Greek, exposing students to literature from the 8th century BC to the 3rd century AD, including the New Testament and early church fathers. In contrast, the course offered by St. Raphael's focuses exclusively on Koine Greek in the context of the Eastern Orthodox Church, using the Modern or Received pronunciation.
