About this Course
This online course is the second year of the Belhaven High Scholars program, a "classics" or "Great Books" program that integrates western history, literature, and art from ancient to contemporary times. The course is offered in partnership between TPS and Belhaven University and features live classes with interactive dialogue, including regular teacher-moderated "round table" discussions. The curriculum is designed to help students examine and analyze course topics through collaborative conversation and to consider intellectual and philosophical movements from a distinctly biblical worldview. Over the course of two years, students can earn 24 college credits and 6 high school credits.
The course covers a range of topics, including western literature and composition, western history, contemporary world history, art history, and art appreciation. The integrated nature of the program allows students to study not only the literature, art, and history of western civilization, but also the intellectual and philosophical movements that have shaped the modern world. The course involves frequent in-class discussions and requires regular active participation. Students who plan to regularly miss one or more classes per week must obtain TPS written concurrence for the courses to receive credit.
