Asian Myth & Legend

This is a summer course designed for 5th to 8th-grade students who have an interest in East Asia, manga/anime, video games, and the fantasy genre. The course focuses on the myths, legends, and folklore of East Asian countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Tibet, and Vietnam. Students will learn about the narratives that have shaped these cultures, and how these stories reflect both cultural differences and shared human values. Alongside the cultural content, students will also be introduced to the geography of the East Asian region, basic Japanese and Korean pronunciation, how to distinguish different Asian written languages, and the use of online resources for world language pronunciation. The course also covers the etiquette of online classrooms.
