Artist in the Desert – Georgia O’Keeffe – Early Semester – High School Level

The online course, "Exploring Art: A Study of Georgia O'Keeffe," introduces participants to the works and artistic techniques of American Modernist painter Georgia O'Keeffe. It focuses on her iconicSubject Matter: large flowers, animal skulls, and desert landscapes from New Mexico. The course emphasizes the importance of form, color, line, and space in painting. Students apply these concepts hands-on through watercolor painting at home. Towards the end, students present their favorite watercolor in a virtual gallery walk webinar, where they roleplay art critics to analyze, interpret, and evaluate each other's paintings. The course offers a unique blend of art appreciation and artistic practice, wrapping up with a collaborative learning experience.
