About this Course

The course "Form and Color" is an interdisciplinary, multimedia art class designed for high school students, particularly mature 8th graders through 12th grade. The class serves as a foundational exploration of the two primary pillars of art: form and color. Students will learn to build basic shapes into complex ones (form) and gain practical experience in color mixing and understanding color combinations (color theory). Additionally, the course provides an overview of art development and styles throughout history, along with insights into key artists and styles, fostering a broader understanding of art and culture.

The class is structured with homework assignments and grading based on attendance, participation, and the number of assignments turned in. It encourages individual exploration and creativity, with a less structured, non-comparative grading scheme that reflects the subjective nature of art. Required materials include specific sketchbooks, pencils, erasers, watercolor paints, paintbrushes, and the book "Figure It Out!" by Chris Hart.
