About this Course

This online course is an introduction to the fundamentals of architecture, designed for high school students. It covers topics such as space and form, structural integrity, responsible use of materials, and education and career paths in architecture. Students will have the opportunity to create both physical and digital models, and will work on a large project each semester, with smaller tasks building up to the final project). The course emphasizes the importance of meeting needs, documenting the design process, and the final product.

The course is structured to build towards different final projects each semester. In the first semester, students will learn about space and form, physical modeling, documentation and representation, and evaluating the proposal for a structure. In the second semester, they will learn about materials, structural integrity, safety, sustainability, and systems. Students should have access to a variety of drawing and craft supplies, high-speed internet, a headset and microphone, streaming video capabilities, a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 (or comparable iOS), 8 GB RAM, 2.5 GHz or higher processor, and a mouse.
