AP U.S. History
About this Course
This is a full-year online course that surveys U.S. history from the colonial period through the end of the twentieth century. The course organizes the centuries of the past around the theme of how American history has promoted or belied the ideals of political equality, natural rights, and sovereignty of the people. Students will practice historical thinking skills and engage with rich primary sources to deepen their appreciation for the work and subtleties of history. The course is designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement (AP) exam, with tests modeled after the AP exam format and requirements.
The course is not lecture-based and follows a modified "flipped classroom" approach. Students will be expected to watch films, engage in discussion posts, and read outside of class to utilize class time for problem-solving, analyzing primary sources, and collaborative learning.
