About this Course

The AP Music Theory course, taught by Hannah Jackson for the 2024-2025 school year, is a comprehensive course designed to provide a thorough grounding in core music theory concepts and skills. This online course is equivalent to a first college course sequence in music theory and will cover harmony, counterpoint, chorale-style voice-leading, musical structure, sight-singing, chord recognition, and melodic and harmonic dictation. The course will focus on Western tonal music of the common-practice period and will prepare students to take the College Board AP Music Theory exam. The course costs $850 for credit and $350 for audit and will include two required live sessions per week. The course is structured around written theory and aural skills, with quizzes, module exams, aural skills workshops, and midterm/final exams to assess student progress. Students are expected to have a background in music and should be self-disciplined, detail-oriented, and motivated by a hunger for understanding.
