AP Microeconomics
About this Course
The AP Microeconomics course offered by Daniel Burns for the 2024-2025 school year is an in-depth study of the economy from the perspective of individual businesses and consumers. The course covers topics such as supply and demand, different forms of marketplace competition, labor decisions, international trade, and the role of government in the economy. Interesting topics such as using elasticity concepts to combat child labor and prediction markets in sports and politics will also be explored. This course is designed for homeschooled students in grades 9-12 and no prerequisites are required, although proficiency in math is recommended as the course emphasizes analytical reasoning.
The course will be highly interactive, with no specific times for live sessions, and will include college-level materials, outside readings, videos, and interactive activities. Assignments will be drawn from previous AP exams, and students will be expected to participate in regular discussions and games, including an airline game, a stock market game, and an oligopoly simulation. The main goal of the course is preparation for the AP exam in Microeconomics. Tuition for the full-year section is $650 ($625 with early bird discount) and $450 for the one-semester section. The textbook, Principles of Economics by Libby Rengert and Timothy Tregarthen is available for free online.
