About this Course
The AP® Environmental Science course, taught by Terrianne Lavin, Ph.D., will be available online for the 2024-2025 school year. Dr. Lavin has over 25 years of experience teaching climatology, physical geography, and environmental science at the university level, as well as homeschooling experience. The course aims to bring science and leadership by mentoring, advising, and teaching environmental science to a diverse homeschool population. The course prioritizes mastery of subject matter at each student's own pace, with no penalties for late work. Parents are responsible for reviewing their students' work and ensuring they do not fall behind.
The course format includes weekly reading, interactive quizzes, chapter tests from the Environmental Science and Sustainability textbook, and live sessions. Live classes are one to one and a half hours long and can be attended in-person or reviewed online. During live sessions, students engage in impromptu labs, real-life decision making, timed FRQs, and interactive self-grading. The course covers the primary units tested by the AP® College Board and includes unit quizzes and tests. The class will be housed in Canvas, and technical requirements include a computer, internet access, email, and Zoom capability. The course is open to students in 10th through 12th grades, and the course fees are $750 for early bird registration until July 1st and $850 after that date. The textbook, Environmental Science and Sustainability, Sherman and Montgomery, Ed. 2, 2022, will cost approximately $70.00.
