AP English Literature (Maya Inspektor)

The online AP English Literature and Composition course, taught by Maya Inspektor for the 2024-2025 school year, is a college-level course designed to prepare students for the AP exam in May. The course emphasizes close reading and deep analysis of imaginative literature, including novels, plays, poetry, and short stories. Students will learn to recognize how historical and social context impacts writing and will actively engage with literature through discussions and written responses. The course will also prepare students for the AP exam through exam-style essay writing and practice. The course requires a significant amount of reading and writing, with students expected to read 50-80 pages each week and write one essay (or the equivalent) weekly, as well as numerous shorter responses. Students will participate in interactive discussions, write daily short replies, and engage in a peer review process. The course will also include the study of real literary criticism about the works read to enter into the broader literary conversation. This course is well suited for students who love to write creatively and aims to help students understand what college literature study might involve. The course is open to 11th and 12th graders, as well as 10th graders with excellent credentials.
