About this Course

The AP-English Language Syllabus is a College Board-approved live online course designed for homeschool students in 10th to 12th grade. The course focuses on analyzing complex elements of language, argument, and composition, and employing them in students' writing. It is structured to encourage an ongoing love of language, intellectual discovery, and expression while preparing students to successfully take the AP English Language exam. The course is organized by concept, strategy, and theme, with a focus on vocabulary development, standard English grammar, and understanding the importance of diction and syntax in an author's style.

The course covers both nonfiction and fiction, including works by Mark Twain, Henry David Thoreau, Martin Luther King Jr., Patrick Henry, George Orwell, Shakespeare, and Tom Wolfe. Live meetings occur weekly on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. EST, and are recorded for students' convenience. The course also includes website forum discussion, regular homework assignments, and intensive AP exam preparation. Students should expect to spend 7-10 hours per week on the course, including required reading, essays, multiple-choice questions, and bonus material.
