AP English Language (Alexia Reed)

This is a full-year, college-level online course designed to prepare students for the Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Composition exam. The course, taught by Alexia Reed, will be offered during the 2024-2025 school year and has a tuition fee of $750 for early registration and $800 for registrations after July 1. The course will run from August 23, 2024 to May 9, 2025 and will include breaks for major US holidays and seasonal breaks. The course will focus on critical reading, writing, and discussion, emphasizing expository, analytical, and argumentative writing. Students will learn to read texts closely, analyze images and audio recordings, and write formal and informal responses to them in various modes. The course will progress through various styles of texts and themes as examples, and students will receive weekly themed assignments, except for major writing assignments and exam-oriented practice tests. The course will also include discussions, debates, and meetings via Zoom. Students will need internet access for Canvas and Zoom and will be required to read several texts, including The Elements of Style by Strunk and White, The Elements of Rhetoric by Ryan N.S. Topping, "They Say, I Say" by Graff, Birkenstein, and Durst, and selections from Writing Arguments: A Rhetoric With Readings.
