About this Course

This is a summary of the AP® Computer Science Principles course taught by Rebekah Lang, which prepares students for the AP® exam and future computer science studies. The curriculum, adapted from Code.org, covers 10 units including digital information, internet, app design, variables, conditionals, functions, data, lists, loops, traversals, parameters, libraries, cybersecurity, global impacts, and algorithms. Students will build problem-solving skills, develop shareable web applications, and learn from a diverse cast of role models. The course features weekly live Zoom sessions, Google Classroom discussions, and a Discord channel for student interaction. The course is suitable for hard-working 9th to 12th-grade students, and it requires a computer with high-speed internet access, a Gmail account, and the recommended prerequisites of a B or better grade in Algebra I and readiness for a 10 hours a week for independent work. The course uses Code.org's AP® CS Principles curriculum, with potential additional reading assignments from Blown to Bits, and an optional test prep book. The tuition is $900 for the course and $400 for audit.
