AP Computer Science A

The Online AP® Computer Science A course, taught by Rebekah Lang, is designed to teach high school students Java and prepare them for the AP® CSA exam. This full-year, project-based course emphasizes object-oriented programming methodology, problem-solving, and algorithm development. Students will learn to code by reading the provided textbook, watching videos, working with TAs and classmates, and designing, coding, documenting, and testing Java programs. Weekly Zoom sessions, Google Classroom, Discord, and email are the primary means of interaction. Students will create their own custom Java classes and tutorial videos. The course also offers a supportive community of TAs, who have earned a 5 on the AP® CSA exam and are eager to help others succeed. The course will run from September 9, 2024, to May 16, 2025, and prospective students should be ready to commit 10 hours per week. The College Board recommends that students have completed Algebra II with a grade of B or better, and have experience problem-solving.** Prerequisites are not required, but programming experience is helpful.
