About this Course
The Comparative Politics AP course, taught by Julia Reed, is an engaging and challenging class that prepares students for the AP Government and Politics exam. The course focuses on the impact of different worldviews and their consequences on governments and societies, primarily examining the political systems of the United Kingdom, Russia, China, Mexico, Nigeria, and Iran. Students will learn to think globally, analyze the current world political scene, and understand the influence of countries and non-governmental organizations on it. The course will include weekly lectures, class discussions, films, articles, and on-line sources. The class is designed for self-motivated 9th-12th grade students with high-speed internet access, ability to watch DVDs, and an email account.
This full-year course is NCAA approved, AP, and Honors and will run from September 3, 2024 to May 16, 2025. The class meets every week for lecture/class discussion, with a break during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break. The course requires a textbook, "Introducing Comparative Politics: Concepts and Cases in Context" by Dus and Orvis, and a tech need is high-speed internet access and the ability to watch DVDs.
