About this Course
The AP Chemistry course is a challenging class designed for high school students in grades 10-12 who have completed biology, chemistry, and Algebra 1. The course meets twice a week, with one day dedicated to lecture and problem-solving and the other for hands-on labs, demos, and problem-solving sessions. The course covers all the topics in the AP Chemistry Course and Exam Description and includes more than 16 formal labs, many of which are inquiry-based.
The course is organized around the four big ideas and is aligned with the six science practices. Students should expect to work independently and be prepared for college-level work, including a significant time investment to cover all the required material. The course requires a bound lab notebook with graph paper, sharpened pencils, colored pencils, index cards/post-it notes, a scientific calculator, and other lab materials. A summer assignment will be required of all course participants.
