About this Course

This live online course offers American Sign Language (ASL) instruction for students in grades 7-12. The course covers essential ASL signs, fingerspelling, basic ASL grammar, facial expressions, and the use of space in sign language. Additionally, students gain insights into Deaf culture and develop receptive skills through authentic resources such as stories and signed books. The course structure includes weekly live classes, independent study with provided modules, and quizzes to reinforce learning. Students are expected to dedicate about half an hour per day, five days a week to the course.

The course is conducted live and requires technological capabilities such as a computer, good webcam, high-speed internet, sound card, microphone, and streaming video capabilities. Weekly quizzes are auto-graded by the computer, while students' ASL assignments on Flipgrid are personally evaluated. Students and parents can communicate with the instructor via email, and parents may monitor their student's progress through their account.
