About this Course

The online course "Adulting: Financial Literacy, College Study Skills, & Career Planning" is a one-semester course designed to help students develop essential skills for adult life. It consists of four modules that focus on college and adult-level study skills, personal financial planning, career planning, and the mechanics of the job search. Students will complete a project for each module, including a study guide, a budget, a personal career analysis, and a cover letter and advanced resume. The course requires active participation in discussion boards and three student presentations, as well as two take-home tests.

The first module uses "How to Become a Straight A-Student" by Cal Newport to help students evaluate their study skills. The second module uses "Personal Finance for Dummies" to teach students about decision-making in personal finance. The third module employs "Shopcraft as Soulcraft" by Matthew Rose to emphasize the importance of acquiring a valuable skill and achieving work-life balance. The final module uses "What Color is Your Parachute" to guide students through the job search process. The course includes live classes with ample interaction with the instructor and fellow students. It can be taken as a standalone course, and it builds upon the skills taught in "Adulting: Finance & Goal Planning Resumes & Real Life," but it is not required.
